Worst maternity ward experience at pretoria east hospital, never again would this be a hospital that I would go to.

My baby was born on wednesday afternoon, the labour ward was amazing, the staff in the labour ward was also amazing!

Me and my wifes issue was wirh the maternity ward, we are first time parents and as all fiest time parent we dont know anything about having a baby. My wife realized that our baby was turning yellow, she then pressed the call button to which a sister came and adviaed that my child is still fine, it is only an issue once her eyes turn yellow, and as new parents we listened to her. Later on the paediatrician came to look at our baby and mentioned that she is a bit yellow, they advised that they would do some tests on baby.

After the tests they advised that our baby just needs some sun, and not too long because she can burn... Okay so how long would that be? More information? 5 min? 10 min? Do we look like we know everything?

I was unfortunately not at the hospital since I was admitted into an ICU at a different hospital and my wife was so overwhelmed with the fact that she needs to do everyrhing alone, she did not think to ask any questions, I mean put yourself in her shoes.

After being discharged from the maternity ward, one of the nurses gave my wife an injection and just advised her to use it, she did not give any instructions, she literally had our baby with her on her way home, no instruction was given, my wife has never used an injection for blood clots but they tbink we shouls juat know everything.

It was not a nice experience, we had a super large co-payment which we advised that we would pay the next day, not providing a time since that would have been the day my wife wouls give birth, however, 2 people from reception (a ****ing MAN and a woman) enetered her labour room where she was sitting with just a robe on getting herself ready to give birth, with a card machine demanding the co-payment... WHAT THE ****?

Why would you as a man enter the labour ward if you are not a specialist assisting eith the birth of my child? And why would you come to such a special placw holding a card machine when we advised you that we would be paying our co-payment. We just had much more important things on our mind.

I would ls not recommend having a baby at Pretoria East Hospital, the specialist were amazing, the labout ward was amazing but the rest of the experience was awfull.
