Worst hospital
Worst hospital.
Took my son who fell and bumped his head there. Waited more than 45mins for the ER doctor to see him. The doctor did not even do a proper exam, he felt for bumps and that is it. The dr then said he must go for scans. The radiology department had concerns about the radiation level and tried to discuss that with the dr, the dr was very dismissive, I also had concerns, the dr did not want to answer my questions. They then said my son must be sedated for the scans. I had questions on the side effects and still didn't get an answer on the radiation concern. The doctor was rude and dismissive and stated " anything has side effects even the water you drink".
We then demanded to see the pediatrician first so we can raise our concerns, we were told the pediatrician is making rounds and she will see him shortly. Hours went by, after repeatedly asking when the pediatrician will see us the nurse was rude, said she didn't know what tell me and called the peads ward, handed me the phone and said I should ask them myself. I asked the peads nurse over the phone if they can give an estimate of how long she will be as we are already waiting 3 hours!!! The peads nurse then said that the pediatrician left because we didn't come to the ward..... We then demanded they discharge my son we will take him to another hospital as Vaalpark Netcare is negligent and unprofessional. The staff then started arguing amongst each other about their miscommunication. I demanded they attend to discharging my son and sort out whatever happened between them afterwards. If I did not continue asking when we will be attended to we would have waited the whole day. The staff just stood there arguing with each other. My husband had to raise his voice to get them to attend to discharge papers. The doctor refused to sign anything upon which the peads nurse attended to discharge then.
We took my son to Mediclinic Vanderbijlpark and he was attended to, examined and discharged all within 50mim of arrival.
Also confirmed that scans on a child this young is dangerous and would have exposed him to extremely high levels of radiation. If the doctor at Vaalpark Netcare knew what he was doing or did a proper exam he would have known that scans should be done only if there is serious cause for concern.
Netcare Vaalpark will NEVER see us again.
