Waterfall City Netcare Hospital - Montrose Ward

Netcare’s motto “You’re In Safe Hands” is a complete misnomer for Montrose ward level of nursing. I never thought that I would find nursing staff worse than I observed some years ago at Charlotte Maxeke (the old Johannesburg General) but Waterfall City Netcare - Montrose ward is the absolute worst.! My wife had an operation in October and the experience has traumatised her to such an extent that she is still having nightmares weeks later. She had a diabolical time in the ward. The operation was great and the surgeon and attending doctors, anaesthetist and physio are all to be commended. Even the Ward sister was excellent, BUT the nursing staff seem untrained, uncaring and unprofessional. My wife was there for 3 days and 2 nights, and she was already begging me after the first night to take her home, even if it was in an ambulance; I couldn't as it would have endangered her surgery. There had been no communication from the ward during the surgery even though I tried to get through some 20 times. (I was not allowed to stay due to Covid restrictions) My wife reports that the bells get ignored for long periods of time, the staff gossips about you in your presence, shout at one another, do not consult your medication requirements that were supp**** on admission and then even forgets to give medication. Her drip ran dry at one point and the drip alarm was on for over an hour with no response from nurses even with the bell being rung. One could go on and on about the shocking treatment and lack of concern for the patient but suffice to say that when I came to fetch her on the 3rd day at 11:30, her bed area had not been cleaned or sanitized (since the previous day) and she was lying in her own bodily fluids which were running down the side of the bed !! I will never recommend Waterfall Hospital to anyone and would actually say "avoid at all costs"
