UCT ACADEMIC HOSPITAL CAPE TOWN

I was admitted to UCT Academic hospital recently. The surgeon and surgery was 100 OK. I am on a Medshield hospital plan. The account was R39024.23 cents of which Medshield only paid R28232 under my hospital plan. Medshield called me today and told me to speak to UCT Academy Hospital because they are charging for many items not applicable under the agreement with Medshield., leaving me with an account of over R10,000to pay. I was in hospital 1.5 days This is outrageous. I was advised to speak to the hospital but they do not answer the telephone. I would advise Patients to get a firm quote for any medical proceedures in a hospital that is approved on their medical aid list BEFORE agreeing to medical treatment. UCT only paid 33% of the daily IN-Hospital rate and added amounts on nearly every item that was needed and I do Have a hospital plan. Because this is a cancer situation I will need to go back into A hospital in 3 weeks time for 10 to 14 days. This would mean I will have to pay an additional R35,000 just for my stay there without and equipment or operation.. Don't go there-Negotiate with another hospital- I am taking my case to the Medical Aids Council now. SO BE WARNED about UCT Academic Hospital
