Theft at Netcare St Augustine's Hospital
I was recently admitted into Netcare St Augustine's hospital in surgical ward 2. My phone got ******- outside of visiting hours, and the people I was in the ward with were all post op so they were all sleeping. I fell asleep at approximately 11:30 am and woke up just after 13:00, I realised my phone was missing and alerted the nurse. No body seemed to care or even be phased that my phone was ****** in the ward during a time when the only people that had access to the wards was the staff. Security came more than 30 minutes later and advised me that if I want I can go to the police station to open a case because there's nothing they can do. I would like to understand how a patient is expected to abscond from their treatment and go to the police station? What is the point of having in-house security? Not a single check or follow up was done with regards to this matter, there was no sense of urgency in addressing this issue. Instead I was made to feel like a nuisance. What kind of institution lets such a thing happen? Never in my many years of living have I heard of such happening, at a private facility even? Is theft that common at this hospital that it no longer alarms anyone? If so what is being done about it? There is no way that I spend over R20 000 to receive treatment and then the cherry on top is have my phone ******, in broad daylight. I feel so violated because someone in that hospital took advantage of the fact that I was highly medicated and saw that as an opportunity to ***** from me, and then nobody does anything about it? How on earth is that something that is acceptable? I have had friends and family admitted at other hospitals both private and public, and never before has such happened. I pay an arm and a leg to be ****** from?
