My daughter had been ill for a very long time and was recommended to go to one of the neurosurgeons here. Twice she had an operation and twice the procedure did not work. The frustration was not only that we had to pay for a third operation in a different hospital, but my daughter kept telling the neurosurgeon she was in pain, and he dismissed her both times. I went with her, and he laughed when she described his symptoms. to him (what medical practitioner does that?). Our GP investigated after my daughters first operation because she listened to my daughter and saw there was a problem, but the neurosurgeon dismissed the GP as well. We were lucky that the GP kept pushing or my daughter may well have gone blind but the neurosurgeon at this hospital was not in the slightest bit concerned. It is no wonder our medical aid premiums are so high if your medical aid has to pay for 3 operations because Drs do not carry out procedures correctly. You cannot knock the hospital (Alberton) because it is really nice, but the neurosurgeon should not be in medicine if he does not care about the patient's wellbeing.
