Terrible nursing care - Mulbarton Netcare

My brother experienced severe back pains, having had previous issues with his spine. He was also constipated which aggravated the pressure on his spine. On arriving at the casualty department, we had to wait approximately half an hour to get a bed even though he was visibly in excruciating pain. We finally got a bed in bay 3 which had blood stains on the floor. A drip was administered on anticipation that a pain ****er will be administered as well. The attending nurse drew blood into a plastic syringe as well (which we though was strange as normally this would be put into vials. With my brother still in pain, we waited approximately and hour before the attending doctor saw to him. The doctor saw the chart, heard his symptoms and ordered an xray and walked away. He didnt even give us the chance to ask any questions. My brother could not bear the pain and could not stand up. He was taken on the bed to the radiography department and left there. The student radiographers required that he stand up and since he wasnt able to do so, he was taken back into the causalty ward. A pain ****er was administered then which provided some relief according to my brother.

We then had to wait about half an hour before the nurse returned with scones in his hand, clearly not attending to any medical needs. My brother was taken to the xray department and returned to another bay in the casualty. He was then admitted. The process took 6 hours, most of which was waiting for the nurse to check up and for the doctor to come (two doctors attended and the second (a nigerian doctor) was much better!)

On being admitted, an instruction was given to the nurses to administer medication at 08h00 sharp the next day. The nurse, or any member of staff, did not attend to him until 10h00 and his treatment was delayed.

The staff seem disinterested with their tasks and did not show that they are part of a patient centric system. In contrast, they display acts of laughter and socialising in the hallway as opposed to treating patients. I have seen this on a number of occassions in my short stay.

This is most dissapointing and my brother is considering taking a forced discharge because of the terrible care.
