Terrible Nursing at Netcare N17 Hospital

I was at the Netcare N17 for knee surgery and have the following to report. All staff were extremely friendly, pain management was excellent and my blood pressure was taken a few times. Besides that, nursing skills were non existent. * I was not assisted out of me theatre garb and into comfortable pyjamas post surgery * I had to ask for water 3 times post surgery despite feeling totally dehydrated * No tea and quarter sandwich was served post surgery to bring up our blood sugar levels post surgery and the woman across from me was calling our desperately for something to eat and drink *At no time during my stay was my bed even straightened or made up. I went into post operative shock and was shivering and my teeth were chattering. Recovery room nursing staff put a few warmed bunny blankets on me, under the ward blankets. In the ward, these were never removed and during the night, I was trying to peel off these blankets which is an extremely painful process post knee surgery. * there were no toilet raisers on the loos for orthopaedic patients * During the night. I pulled plastic bits from the theatre from my bed which were digging into my flesh. * The food was rather mediocre and tasteless. * I received the WIFI code about an hour before I was discharged. *Tea and coffee are served at 04h30 and again at 21h00 * Despite the WHO having put a stop to the PCR test as at 31/12/21, I was forced to have this shoved up my nose as mouth swabs were not available which is *********** and negligent on the part of the Lancet lab and leads me to believe that using a failed test is a money making scheme between the hospital and the lab.

The hospital manager did contact me and wanted to set up a meeting and was going to send an email. As of today, I have still not received such and have resorted to this platform as well as Facebook. In future, I will go to Baragwanath where you do not pay for frills and get none, but basic nursing in the orthopaedic wards is beyond excellent

As a postscript, I would like to add that y mother walked into the Linlsfield Netcare hospital for tests, contracted klebsiella and never walked again. Three months later, she was dead. Here too, the nursing was atrocious and I believe with better care, My mother could have been saved.

As hospitals are now run as businesses and not nursing institutions any longer, you as a business, must remember, that outsourcing does not mean that you are allowed to abdicate your duties and responsibilities towards your patients, or, as you seem to regard us, your customers. Florence Nightingale must be spinning in her grave..
