St Augustine Hospital Non Disclosure Of Patient Rights
I was admitted last year at St Augustine Hospital for a panic attack. I was admitted via the trauma center and was kept in hospital for a few days. During my stay the necessary treatment was given and I was discharged thereafter. Some months later I was advised that there was a shortfall for the hospital and I was liable for the payment. I contacted my medical aid scheme Discovery and was advised that St Augustine lost its license to treat psychiatric or psychological patients and would only receive x percentage of payment from the medical aid. I was also told that the Hospital should have advised me of this during my stay or transferred me to the hospital where the medical covers in full. This was never disclosed to me. I have made several attempts to speak to the hospital and in particular Geetha Baijoo who I find to be rude and unprofessional. I have called for her, left several messages to which I have proof of and she just does not return my calls. I emailed her some months ago and she responded but with no solution. I am very well aware that I am not the only patient with this problem as my brother also is faced with a similar problem whereby this hospital and the likes of Geetha don’t give a damn about us patients. They have threatened to hand me over. I will now pursue legal action against the hospital. Someone like Geetha should not hold a position where she hides from her responsibility. Pathetic, useless hospital, need to read “Treat the customer fairly” policies
