Shame on you Nectare Bougainville Hospital

My mother was admitted to Bougainville Hospital in Da****rt, Pretoria, on 26 June 2018 with a stomach ailment. This was her second admission to the same facility in two weeks for similar ailments. She was responsive and was able to walk in by herself. The following day I received a call that she was transferred from the general ward to ICU. To my shock and horror she looked like a different person when I saw her. Attached to tubes and a ventilator and completely unresponsive... Apparently my mother had several seizures since the previous night. The staff was unable to give any explanation as to the cause. My mother has a serious mental illness which requires chronic medication, which we immediately took to the staff for the attending Dr, Dr Mbala, to take note of and administer. No attempt was made to give her this/similar medication, until almost 2 weeks into her stay. Non-admission of this medication could have a serious effect on my mother's brain function. An EKG was eventually performed, and we were told that the results were clear. Dr Mbala did not respond to correspondence where we, inter alia, expressed our concerns that the initial reason for my mother's admission was not addressed. Communication between the hospital staff to the family was non-existent, and between the staff as well, as none of them could ever give us a clear answer as to what was going on with my mother. Another Dr, Dr Ishmail Hussain, a Pulmonologist, took over from Dr Mbala. He referred my mother to a Neurologist and withdrew from her case. When questioning the hospital about which Neurologist would attend to my mother, and by when, none of the staff could give us an answer. After demanding details, Dr Hussain gave permission for me to call him on Tuesday evening, the 10th of July. During our discussion, he continuously contradicted himself: we initially were told that the EKG had clear results, but now he said that it did not, hence the referral to a Neurologist. As I tried to press him for details of which Neurologist he was obtainining, he admitted that "No Neurologist known to him would come out to Bougainville Hospital". This meant that he was willing to leave my mother unattended, as he withdrew from her case, by transferring her to a Neurologist he knew he would not be in a position to secure. This he followed by blaming Dr Mbala, when I pointed out that my mother has been in the hospital for 2 weeks, with no furhter tests being perfomed. After heated discussion and perhaps a few subtle threats from my side, he phoned me back and said that my mother was being transferred to Muelmed Mediclinic that same evening (10 July 2018). The transfer went smoothly, but yesterday, when I phoned Muelmed, they stated that they received no medical history from the transferring Dr (Hussain). They therefore had very sketchy details on how to treat my mother. This left the impression that Dr Hussain simply wanted to get rid of the "problem". The nurse at Muelmed suggested that I left my contact details for Dr Skosana to phone me when she's available. This she did last night, and she told me that a Neurologist had already attended to my mother that same day, and that she (Dr Skosana) would refer my mother for X-rays and Ultrasound of her stomach to determine whether any obstruction could be the cause. The treatment my mother (and the family) received from Muelmed is lightyears removed from that offered by Bougainville Hospital. My mother seems better already - thank you Muelmed!
