Personal Info Discussed with 3rd party & billed for complaining

On 28 December 2016, I went to casualties at Milpark Hospital to be attended to, due to an injury.

I waiting for a long time to be assisted, and sat in the waiting area listing to the Dr’s down the hall having various discussion, including about how “live Facebook” has become.

After an hour of listening to this (and no one else being in the waiting area for a long while), I enquired at Reception as to when I will be assisted. Reception advised that the file has been sent to the back and the Dr’s will advise when they are available.

A few minutes after, I was called to go through to see a Doctor. A gentleman came in and introduced himself as the Dr who will be attending to me. I vented to him about the service delivery, upon which he said he will investigate.

The Dr came back with a gentleman who introduced himself as the Shift Doctor (which as informed today, was actually a Shift Nurse), explaining that they never got the file. When Reception changed shifts, they forgot to hand the file to the Dr’s at the back.

I subsequently vented a bit more. The Shift “Nurse” then instructed me to go to X-Rays.

Upon arriving at X-Rays, I decided to rather leave the hospital as the service delivery at both stations were absolutely non-existent.

During the first week of January, I notice that my medical aid has been charged by Milpark and Monteith Nay Wells and Heyman Inc. I subsequently logged a complaint about and spoke to Faye Bophela.

During the first call, Faye was incredibly rude and I requested to speak to her Superior. Faye refused to transfer the call and I subsequently ended the call.

A short while later, Faye called again and requested to investigate the matter, to which I consented.

A short while later, Faye called again, however, this time I was in a meeting and one of my staff members attended to the call. FAYE DISCUSSED THE ENTIRE MATTER with my staff member, a 3rd party, without any form of consent from me.

Emails regarding this issue has been going back and forth since the 5th of January to date (which is attached for your perusal).

Important to note how many times Faye blatantly ignores the question in the emails.

Today, I get a call from Dr Monteith who informs me that the fact that I spoke to the Dr constitutes a Consultant and they will bill me for it and it is due and payable. Also because I was taken from the waiting area to where the Doctors attend to patients. Also, because according to his Dr, I used foul language while complaining to him. (Interestingly, I have a witness who will confirm that no foul language was used).

Dr Monteith also made a point of it to tell me repeatedly that there is a BIG difference between the Hospital and the Doctors.

Dr Monteith is not willing to listen, nor answer questions when asked. I asked 4 times if Faye works for the Hospital or for the Doctors and Dr Monteith refused to answer this question, eventually claiming that he did not hear the question.

My opinion is that Dr Monteith is incredibly rude and should not deal with complaints, if conflict resolution training has not been done.

It is evident, from the manner in which the Hospital and the Doctors conduct themselves, that the Patient has no rights, and the Doctors have every right and a sense of entitlement.

This leaves me with a few questions:

1. How is logging a complaint deemed as a Consult?

2. How is private and confidential information revealed to a 3rd party without consent?

3. If there is such a BIG division between the Hospital and the Doctors, should I therefore not sign any forms with the Doctors and not just the Hospital?

4. Is the BIG division only there when a complaint arises?

To date, absolutely nothing has been done. I am becoming less and less suprised by the lack of professionalism.
We are very quick to invoice medical aids, however, not so quick on customer service
