Pathetic Services Provided

On 23 October 2025, Mr Vincent Els, ***, went to Netcare Mulbarton Hospital (ER) following an onset of Hyperemesis. My vital signs were taken and a “drip” administered. Unfortunately, I cannot recall the exact time, but it was before 07:00 in the morning. An ER Dr (male) did enter the room and asked me a couple of questions and left. Never introduced himself or anything, but it seems this is the unprofessional trend at this specific ER, seeing that the previous time I also attended ER, the Dr on call also displayed the same mannerisms. Whilst in ER, the following was done: 1. Vitals were taken. 2. Bloods were drawn. 3. Sent for chest and back x-rays Not once, after all the abovementioned were done, did any of the nursing staff or any Dr update me as to my condition or possible causes thereof. Between 10:00 and 10:45 a female, which we later confirmed, a Dr, completed the discharge form. Complaint: 1. Not once during time of my ER admission, did any of the medical staff provide me with any feedback. 2. Not once, were any of the results (vitals signs / bloods tests / x-rays) discussed with me. 3. The discharging Dr, who obviously did not even have bedside manner - did not even greet or discuss the outcome of the tests with me. In fact, I had to greet her and ask her if the tests were all in order – surely a doctor can at least interact and communicate this with a patient. Upon asking her what the findings were, she noted “we think it is a viral infection” – how can a patient be in an ER and you discharge them “thinking” what the medical condition may be? 4. I received two sms’s re payment: - R685.10, I think from Mulbarton Clinic itself and then; - R1782.35 - from a Dr Esihle Nomlomo. Kindly advise, how can I be charged a total of R2467.45 if I was: 1. Never diagnosed; 2. Not informed of what bloods were taken or results thereof; 3. Never received my x-rays, feedback on the x-rays, or the reports thereof. 4. Further, it is very clear that if I did not communicate with the discharging Dr, she would have just discharged me without any professional dialogue – or is this simply an accepted standard by the institution of concern. In fact, I never fully recovered after this visit, and went to my GP (I am willing to provide proof of this visit, who subsequently correctly diagnosed me, prescribed the correct medication and two day later I could finally feel a difference). Which also reminds me now of the R844.57 I had to spend on medication, which did not work, but this does not come as a surprise, seeing that I was discharged from ER on a “we think it is” basis. I am utterly disappointed with the treatment and the costs of concern. If I knew this would be the result of attending the ER, I would have waited two hours longer, went to my GP and at least, would have been treated accordingly. I find it totally unacceptable that findings were not discussed at any time, I was left to lay on the bed for at least 3 hours without any feedback or communication. I find it completely unacceptable that the staff obviously lack even basic bedside manner both verbally and nonverbally. How can I be expected to pay for a service if the service was clearly not provided. Best is to rather go to my GP, who at least always show immense and sincere respect and at least get the diagnosis right, or in an emergency to Netcare Alberton Hospital, who has an outstanding reputation. I am utterly disappointed and disgusted in the poor services rendered by Netcare Mulbarton Hospital (ER) and will most definitely not recommend this Clinic to anyone.

Hi Vincent. I am sorry to hear that your experience at our hospital was not a good one, and I hope that you are recovering well. I will share your feedback with the relevant manager for follow up. Take care, Kamo
