I was booked in for a c-section delivery and upon arrival at the Maternity ward on 24th August (my scheduled delivery date) we were told the ward was full. My husband, parents and I waited over an hour as the nurses called around the hospital trying to find a bed for me. Mind you it's 6am and they KNEW we were coming...its scary enough to undergo any surgery but to arrive and be told the ward is full and there is no bed for you isn't comforting at ALL! A bed was locatd in Ward 7 which we didn't like, this ward had very sick people and it wasn't the maternity ward. The nurses from the maternity ward had to keep leaving their ward to come find me in Ward 7, I was moved from a semi-private room general population within an hour of being in ward 7 which further infuriated me. The worst was AFTER my delivery, I was wheeled to recovery and told that I'm going back to Ward 7 yet my husband was with our newborn in the maternity ward which means that I wouldnt get to see them. I was almost in tears as I wanted to hold and feed my newborn baby and couldn't. They couldn't bring her to Ward 7 nor could I see my husband unless he left our newborn. After repeatedly expressing my frustration and unhappiness I was informed that a bed was freed in maternity and I get to change wards. Sadly this was my 4th surgry and the other 3 hospitals I have been in had MUCH better service than Olivedale. The rest of my 3 day stay wasn't any better than the first day - twice my bed was made with bed sheets with holes. The food was ********** my family had to bring me food. I ordered a "Health roll" and got a nasty dry WHITE seseame seed bun with cheese and tomoto (I have pictures as evidence). To think the hospital will bill my medical aid thousands for this ********** experience!
