Netcare Medicross - East London

My Mother resides in a Retirement Home. She is 85 years old, diabetic and on Warfarin to thin her blood. I received a phone call from the Home yesterday to inform me that they are taking her to her GP at Medicross as she was delirious and her sugar levels sky high. She did not even know where she was. Her GP was not available and she was attended to by the GP on duty who referred her to hospital. Although she is on Medical Aid, she was taken to Frere Hospital. I immediately phoned Medicross to speak to the GP to find out what his diagnoses was and the reason for the Frere Hospital referal. At this stage I was frantic and worried about my Mother. His Receptionist told me that he was busy with a Patient and asked me for my details as he would phone back asap. I explained all my concerns to the Receptionist to make him aware of how urgent it was. The GP never returned my call. A good bedside manner is typically one that reassures and comforts the patient and the family. Lack of bedside manner, or polite communication with patients and family, is more than a breach of etiquette, it also shows total disrespect and lack of care for the profession. I know who the GP was.....<br>
