Netcare Linksfield Ward B - HORRIBLE

I sent this to Netcare about their Linksfield Hospital and have not received any reply:

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the standard of nursing care my mother received in Ward B at Linksfield Hospital prior to her discharge on Monday, 9 February 2026.

My mother was terminally ill with cancer and was extremely vulnerable during her stay. Unfortunately, the care she received from the nursing staff fell far below an acceptable or humane standard.

Throughout her admission, nurses rarely checked on her, particularly during the evenings. On multiple occasions, family members had to actively request that nurses attend to her needs. When these requests were made politely, they were met with visible irritation, eye-rolling, and dismissive behaviour, which was deeply distressing for both my mother and her visitors.

When my mother needed assistance to use the bathroom, she was handled roughly and without dignity. Shockingly, visitors were expected to assist with tasks that should have been the responsibility of trained nursing staff.

On the morning of her discharge, after my niece had cared for my mother throughout the night, she asked whether the nurses could assist with dressing her. The response she received was, “She is being discharged, you change her.” As a result, my niece was left to dress my mother on her own. This lack of compassion and basic care is utterly deplorable.

No patient—especially one who is terminally ill—should be treated with such disregard, and no family should have to witness or compensate for such failures in care. The behaviour displayed by the nursing staff in Ward B reflects extremely poorly on Linksfield Hospital and is not what one would expect from a professional healthcare institution.

I am requesting that this complaint be formally investigated and that appropriate action be taken. I would also appreciate written feedback regarding the outcome of this matter.

This experience has caused my family significant emotional distress, and I feel it is important that this be addressed to prevent other patients and families from enduring similar treatment.
