NETCARE - Disappointing service received under their care
I was admitted at Netcare Akasia Hospital for a day case on the 14th of July. I came into the hospital at 10am in the morning having skipped breakfast because I am scheduled to go to theatre.
First thing that disturbed me was the fact that my file was not ready even though I did the online pre-admission process which then makes me question why we have to do it if we are still going to sit and wait for the admission process to take place by the admin desks???
After 2pm I started to inform the nursing staff that I am now hungry what is the hold up and I was instructed to call my Dr and ask them because they dont know, which was quite disturbing for me. I was collected to go to theatre after 4pm, no communication on delays the hospital is experiencing or anything for that matter.
At this point I am quite agitated as I am STARVING!!!. When leaving the ward I asked the staff to please ensure that i will have food upon my return. I came back from theatre, I dont know what time but when I got my cell it was towards 8pm, they gave me a plate of food I finished it in 1 minute and requested for more food as I was still extremely hungry.
The kitchen lady came in with food and said to my face that I cannot be given anymore food, only tea. This was very infuriating for me and this is all happening after I had requested for my cell for more than 3 times with responses "We will bring it" meaning I cannot even order myself food from outside the hospital (MrD or Ubereats). I then stood up and changed and left! at the nursing station I found nurses and they had the audacity to tell me they did not know I was hungry when I have been communicating this from 2pm why are handovers then done?
Suddenly when I am at the station requesting them to remove their tubes from me so I can go to my home and eat they were willing to make a plan for me to get food, I told them NO I dont want it anymore I want to go
The service I received from Netcare Akasia Hospital has absolutely no difference to me going to a government hospital and waiting in a long queue without any communication from anyone or hospitality at my most vulnurable state
Furthermore, this hospital enforces paying for tickets into the hospital premises while other Netcare hospitals do not, such as Olivedale.
As a healthcare worker who has been an employee in the past for this hospital group it its extremely appaling to say the very least to be exposed to a hospital that does not to any degree uphold the values of a Netcare hospital group especially towards the care of their patients.
When I left, none of the nurses even knew if it was okay for me to leave or not as they did not even check the key indicator towards my discharge
And how is it a day case if I must say in hospital from early hours of the morning until late hours of the evening???
I am still very livid about the experience and service that I received from that hospital. It would really take a lot for me to trust you with my healthcare again
