Netcare Balito - Care and kindness don't cost anything.....!!!!

my 78 year old Mom was on holiday at Zimbali, slipped and fractured her hip. The Ambulance guys were just wonderful and treated her with care and kindness..... but the level of kindness and care only deteriorated from there!

She arrived at Netcare Balito and they would not admit her until she had paid R80k because she is not on a medical aid. The horror is, that even though the admissions officer was well aware that their server was down resulting in the problem that they were not able to receive proof of payment, they still would not admit her even after she was shown the proof of payment from my cousin's email on his phone. Thank goodness we knew someone who could print the proof of payment in his home for us (at midnight on a Saturday night) and only when this was presented would they admit her.

And you would think that this was all bad enough... no, it doesn't end there. They finally admit her at 00h30 on Sunday morning, put her on a drip for pain and whatever .... heaven forbid the orthopead has to work on a Sunday!! They fed her on Sunday night, and on Monday morning at 5am she was given a piece of toast and a cup of tea, and saw the surgeon at 11am with the understanding that she would be operated on after lunch / in the afternoon. By 4.30pm she was besides herself with trauma, hunger, concern... no communication from anyone to her with regard to her status / further waiting period - not from the surgeon nor the aneathetist. What kind of medical professional leaves an elderly patient for so long without proper medical care? Merely managing their pain for more than 40 hours before she finally made it into theatre at 7pm that evening? and that after taking a "deposit" of 80 thousand Rand.... shocking!!

Our family went through an experience in October 2015 in Cape Town, where my Dad had broken his hip, was very professionally admitted into Milnerton Medi Clinic after a deposit of only R40k - for the same injury!!! He was stabised and operated on the very next day, with care and kindness... chalk and cheese!!
