Neglegience at a Netcare Hospital

On the 22nd March 2018 my 3 month old daughter was sick, she was struggling to breath and coughing very bad, myself together with my wife visited a paediatrician at Netcare Pholoso ,Dr Sihlangu who was very helpful and admitted our daughter with broncholitis

When we got to the paediatric ward the staff was very friendly, professional and welcoming, our daughter was treated with nebulizers which were administered four hourly and an antibiotic administred IVI, I think eight hourly among other medications. Minkie and enrolled nurse is among the nurses who took very good care of our daughter while at this hospital, Nkoana, Patience and Molebogeng also add to this list of wonderful nurses who do their job professionally, with days going by our little girl was getting better and better, the physiothe****** Mr Mohammed was also very good whenever he came over to suction my girl among other physiotherapies

Our little girl was to be transferred to Netcare Sunninghill as the X-ray image suggested she had cardiomegaly, we got very worried but were continuasly reassured by Dr Sihlangu that she would receive the best care at Sunninghill.

I am an advanced life support Emergency Care Technician employed by ER24 in Polokwane and I am completely clued when it comes to patient treatment and management, majority of the Polokwane community and the surrounding do not like the Netcare Pholoso and their reasoning is that the staff at this hospital’s wards are unprofessional and at times neglect patients, when my little girl was admitted by the paediatrician I explained to her my corncern with regard to the treatment afforded to patients at this hospital and she assured me that at the paeds ward my girl would receive the best of treatments. Indeed she was taken good care of until Tuesday the 27th March 2018 when the nurse tasked with taking care of my little girl “Rosina Lekolwana” took over from Khutso Nkoana, my little girl was neglected, her nebs where not given in time, the nasal medication was not administered until around 18h00 when Nkoana was asked to give them, the flow rate of the antibiotic was left at the maintenance rate of 2ml/h even though it was suppose to run at 10ml/h, when I asked her why my daughter had not recieved at nebs after fours she gave me a lame excuse, she said that nebs are just nebs and they can even be given without any interval, this kept me asking myself if this lady was a nurse or maybe a hospital cleaner in a nurses uniform, when I asked about the flow rate she just fumbled, I asked to see the matron but apparently she was busy and would see me later, she knocked off without even saying a word to me, My wife ended up asking Khutso Nkoana to adjust the ivec to 10ml/h just so my little girl can get healed.

My girl was transferred to Sunninghill and the ER24 Crew were at Pholoso 15 minutes before the actual pickup time, when we arrived at Sunninghill we were at a different Netcare altogether, the treatment offered to us was as though they had rehe****d, one thing that completely supprised me is that my wife was given food while at Pholoso she was told that she is not the patient and so she has to get her own food, I mean the baby I exclusively breastfed so the mother needs food in order to produce milk.

I would like to thank the Netcare Pholoso staff who are real medical professionals, sercurity guards, cleaners and all other role players for the wonderful work they do but I would like to make it clear that I will never allow myself or any member of my family to be admitted at this hospital, in my books “there is no room mistakes in the medical profession”.

I will also take it upon myself to start a compaign to see to it that every patient transported by me in the ambulance knows the kind of treatment patients get at this hospitals wards.
