Late Notification Of Co-payment Liability From Netcare Olivedale

I was first admitted to Olivedale Netcare Hospital in July 2024 for a period of two weeks. During that admission, my medical aid covered the full cost of the hospital stay and all related services.

I was later admitted again to the same hospital in January 2025, also for approximately two weeks. After the hospital submitting the claims to my medical aid(Medshield), I then was informed 6 months after the admission that the medical aid only paid 70% of the total hospital bill because the hospital was no longer considered part of my medical aid network at the time. As a result, I have been advised that I am responsible for the remaining 30%, which amounts to approximately R15,000.

My concern is that I was never informed by the hospital administration at the time of admission, during my stay, or upon discharge that the hospital was no longer in my medical aid network or that I would be liable for a 30% co-payment. This information has only been communicated to me six months after my discharge, which has come as a complete surprise.

Had I been informed during my admission, I would have had the opportunity to make an informed decision regarding my admission or explore alternatives within my medical aid network.

Netcare doesn't care for their patients. Their only concern is to make profit from sick people. They have send sheriff to come and threaten attaching my asset if I don't pay.What nonsense is this ? I am now sick again because I have been very stressed as to where am I going to get R15000.. I am very disappointed and disgusted about this situation.
