ICU nurses aggressive, malicious and ******.
First off I like to commend the Doc at Netcare as the best. They are professional and know what they are doing. The only reason I went to Netcare was because the best docs was there. The nurses in the normal hospital was also ok, this complaint is specifically about ICU, the time when you are the most dependent on people to help you but get refused and even harmed.
DO NOT LET YOU FAMILY OR FRIEND GO TO NETCARE ICU, I WAS IN WILGERS ICU BEFORE FOR A WEEK AND IT IS 1 BILLION TIMES BETTER AND GAVE ME GREAT RESPECT FOR NURSES IN ICU. NETCARE DID THE OPPOSITE.
The ICU nurses on the other hand can only be experience as pathetic. There was so much malpractice that I can not even remember it all but here is some of the biggest ones.
(Note: The last 2 nurses, and older lady and and younger male nurse was excellent)
But there was 2 nurses that was not only bad but malicious. If you are thinking about going to Netcare ICU and being at you most vulnerable and expecting the to take care of you THINK AGAIN.
When the docs are in the room the nurses are attentive and pay attention, as soon as they leave they care so little that they actually enjoy your pain.
Lets look at a brief few experiences. (Some of the can be verified by people that was visiting at the time, I am not just and angry patience that was in pain)
1: Refused pain medication. I got a brain tumor removed and got severe headaches afterwards. The Doc explicitly old the nurse the next time I complain about headache what pain medication to give me. A few hour went by and when it came back I told her that I have the pain and she should give me the medication. She look me in the eye and told me "Just relax the pain will go away". I told her it is an extreme headache I cant relax. She looked at me Laughed out loud and left not giving me any medication. I had to get the attention of another nurse that was not assigned to me to escalate it and after hours of pain finally got what was suppose to take 5 mins.
2: Refusal of water and ice. Because my nose was blocked by pipes due to the nature of the surgery my mouth go to dry that I would wake up and could not breath, I would then take a little bit of water and ice just to be able to breach again. The doc AGAIN told both nurses that they must ensure there is always water and ice. But I woke up and there was not water or ice, I called the nurse (the same one that the doc told in front of me) and she flat out REFUSED to fetch water or ice. This nurse has a lazy left eye. I had to wait for here to leave to again beg another nurse to please fetch water and ice in order to breath.
3: This exact thing happened again with another nurse. I made sure that when the doc is there he tells her (a fat one this time, the same one that refused me the pain killers they instructed her to give me) that there always needs to be water and ice. Again I wake up and ask for water and ice and am REFUSED and have to escalate while barely being able to breach.
4: The same fat nurse would sit relaxed on a chair in front of me and I would signal the bell, raise my hand and call her name and she would flat out ignore me looking at her phone. (They have tablets that are for work but this was her personal phone). Then when the doc came and I told them this the nurse says no but you must just call me pretending like nothing happened. Then as soon as the doc leaves she again refuses any communication.
5: This same fat nurse was standing in front of me looking at me. I could not swallow well as my nose was blocked and I started to choke, She looked me IN THE EYE and laughed and laughed as I choked in pain. She offered not advice help or anything she just enjoyed my pain visibly and clearly.
6: The nurse with the lazy left eye was malicious and ******. She refused any question I had. I have been in ICU way longer than I would care to so I know how it works. But as this nurse changed the bed, a routine that I know well, she kept aggressively telling me how I am destroying her bags etc etc while just laying there doing exactly what I always do. She pushed me against the side for no reason until great pain as she enjoyed seeing me in pain even thought the bedding was way behind me. (Again been thought this more than 30 times so I know what she was doing was intentional) all the time verbally attacking me as if she is the patient in pain.
7: The fat nurse also refuse any and all questions and just answered "yes" while clearly not paying attention. She was to busy on her phone, I could hear her whatsapp her friends. I had again asked another nurse that was not assigned to me if I needed clarification.
These are only a few of the example I remember. Again I had visitors that can corroborate many of these and the general attitude of not giving 2 ****s.
Like I said in Wilgers I gained great admiration for nurses in ICU and still think of them as some of the most professional and life saving profession in the world. But in Netcare when you are at your most vulnerable the nurses will laugh at you when you are in pain, refuse to bring you basic things like water and enjoy refuse you pain medication when explicitly told to do so.
The doc are unaware of this because as soon as they are in the room it is as if the nurses take on a different life. But the second they leave you left fighting for your own life.
Again there was 2 nurses and older woman and a young male that was excellent, but the rest the word pathetic fails to describe them.
Best regards,
Best regards,
