Horrific Experience at Netcare Waterfall – No Compassion or Care

Complaint for Hello Peter!

⭐ 1 out of 5 stars Horrific Experience at Netcare Waterfall – No Compassion or Care My wife and I had an absolutely traumatic experience at Netcare Waterfall City Hospital that no family should ever have to endure. From the moment we arrived at the casualty unit, the level of care was appalling. My wife was visibly bleeding, yet the attending nurse dismissed it as "normal spotting" without even examining her. We had a scheduled appointment with one of the hospital’s top obstetricians/gynecologists that morning. He failed to show up, with no call, no explanation. When we were eventually seen by a doctor in casualty, we were told that the baby was still viable. Despite that, the staff showed little urgency or compassion, and the overall attitude was cold and detached. We were asked to pay R5000 upfront before my wife could be admitted — in the middle of a medical emergency. After paying, we faced further delays and confusion. Her file was misplaced, and no one could even confirm the gestational age. Sadly, she miscarried — and the manner in which it was handled was deeply insensitive. A dismissive comment from the doctor left us devastated, without even basic comfort or explanation. This hospital prioritised payment over care, and profit over people. We have lodged a formal complaint and, if not resolved satisfactorily, we will escalate to the Office of Health Standards Compliance (OHSC) and the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Highly disappointed. We expected better from a facility of this reputation and cost.
