Even if you are sick! Do not go to Netcare Greenacres! Critical cancer patient dying and treated with no dignity by Netcare Greenacres

If you are critically or ever have cancer do not go to Greenacres Netcare hospital!

Do not expect humanity or dignity from this hospital and its nurses and doctors. My sister was a cancer patient who was in a lot of pain, and in critical condition. The lack of humanity that my sister received is shocking. They advertise that they have a cancer care unit but when push comes to shove there will be no dedicated nurse to look after you,You will be on your own. Are they even trained to take care of cancer patients? They should not advertise this service on their website when they are not able to fully provide this service. My sister was in pain and the drip was empty , and we had to look everywhere for a nurse on duty to change her drip. They were busy chit chatting, laughing and having a ball while my sister was dying. Another male nurse from another division had to come and assist because there was no one on the first floor to assist One evening my sister had such a high fever, it was dangerous levels high and there was no nurse that was looking after her. We had to look everywhere for a nurse. The nurse that was supposed to be on duty on the first floor was not on duty. We had to look everywhere for one. My sister was wet most of the times. We had bought sufficient adult nappies but no nurses were there to change her adult nappies. Her bed was wet with urine. What kind of inhumane treatment is this? We ended up having to change my sisters adult diapers, because they did not do their jobs, One time they saw us changing her nappies and got upset saying that you are not allowed to change the nappies. I also wanted to brush my sister's teeth and the nurses reprimanded us saying that we are not allowed to do that because otherwise they have nothing to report to their doctors. Let me not even talk about the doctors. They could not even take two minutes to come and look at my sister who was in pain. The doctors were even worse. When my sister was struggling to go to the toilet one day the female doctor that was her doctor she could not even wait 2 minutes for my sister to come back from the toilet to check up on her or give a sufficient progress report. How can you be an impatient doctor dealing with a cancer patient? My sister paid a lot of medical aid to be taken in at this hospital, it is R3000 a night and she gets treated this way? People at livingstone hospital receive better treatment then this.

They did not have the decency to speak to her husband and tell them the current state she was in. They were avoidant. As doctors and nurses do you not take an oath to take care of your patients? No wonder this hospital and its doctors are sued for millions because of their lack of good treatment towards patients. My sister could not eat, and do you know what food they offered her? Beesvleis! How can a cancer patient that is in critical condition even digest beesvleis!? Where did they get their training and qualifications from? These doctors and nurses are only in it for the money. I would not advise my worst enemy to go through this treatment. I had another friend who was also terminal in the Livingstone public hospital and the dignity that was shown to her from the nurses and staff there were admirable especially in the renal unit. I knew another friend who had cancer and was treated with more respect and dignity at Livingstone hospital. They knew how to treat a dying person with dignity and their humanity when my friend passed away unlike a private hospital like greenacres netcare, who treated a dying cancer patient with inhumanity. On the day she passed away there was not one nurse in her room, nothing to even console the family or ask if we needed anything of hers unlike in the livingstone where the nurses stayed with a dying patient and consoled and helped the family afterwards. If i were you I would advise you if you have the option do not opt to go to Greenacres netcare hospital. They should be ashamed at the way they treat patients, and take a good hard look at what ethical behaviour is when treating terminal patients. I would not wish this on my worst enemy. A person would expect bad treatment when you are not paying for a service like in livingstone hospital but to be paying exorbitant fees at Netcare Greenacres hospital and to be treated in an inhumane way is unacceptable. Rest in peace to my sister, she did not deserve to die in this way with staff that could not treat her with dignity and respect on her death bed :(
