Eldery cancer patient receives deplorable service from Parklands Hospital

<p>My Mother is an elderly cancer patient who has been in Parklands Hospital, Durban, KZN for 4 weeks now. She has overcome ovarian cancer and is now fighting stomach cancer! She only has the use of 1 arm as a side effect of the first cancer treatment, is wearing adult diapers, cannot walk or dress unaided, and is totally reliant on hospital staff assistance. And that is why they are there, is it not?</p> <p>The following has transpired very recently and being more than 800 kilometers away, I am left with no choice but to use the Hellopeter tool to make this shocking service known, and insist on answers and more.</p> <p> </p> <p>My sister gave her R300 in case she needed some cash, as the nearest sibling, living more than 60 kilometers away, it was a little "slush-fund" in case Mom needed something urgently. This was ******. And yes, whislt we all know you are not supposed to keep valuables in hospital due to the number of ******* everywhere, what else was she to do?</p> <p>When Mom rings for service due to a soiled diaper, or some other real need, she is IGNORED for hours (2+)! If she could help herself, she would have. Unfortunaltely she is stuck with a ward full of staff who seem to really NOT CARE! She is forced to lie in her own mess, and in unable to help herself or get help!</p> <p>Yesterday her soiled clothes were found thrown into a corner of her wardroom, and I mean simply thrown onto the floor! A huge pile of them.</p> <p>Again yesterday, my sister found 3 dirty cups on her nightstand. They all contained coagulated, foul tea left overs. One of the cups has been there since last week Thursday!</p> <p>Lastly, she was scheduled to have her stomach drained yesterday. Fortunately Mom is no dummy and read what they had written on her chart. Here some allegedly qualfied person had documented "Pleural Drain", which has nothing to do with the stomach, but rather the lungs!! (Is this forgivable incompetance??? NO WAY can anyone "talk this right", be forgiven, overlooked or excused) To cap it all, instead of completing her full time that she would need for her stomach to be drained, they only drained 20mm, and then she had to leave as the next person was scheduled for their procedure!! So its ok to not allow her to receive the right treatment after the hospital messes up!!</p> <p>This is sub-human treatment from an organisation that is supposed to be "helping" sick humans, who I might add, PAY AN ARM AND A LEG for it. So its not a free service, its a very costly one, that she needs to survive. Oh, lets not forget about the salary that these staff take home...</p> <p>I would like to know what Parklands Managment is going to do about this?</p> <p>How will she be compensated for her emotional degredation and her financial loss?</p> <p>What are they going to do with the person who recorded the incorrect medical procedure on her chart? The results could have been devestating to her, had she (THE PATIENT) not been mentally alert and naturally curious.</p> <p>What will be the action taken against the employees that threw her clothes on the floor, left the dirty cups and ignored her calls for help?</p> <p>How will you stop her from being victimised, as the guilty staff will know exactly who the patient is?</p> <p>I would like to receive a call or an e-mail with answers to all my questions from a Senior member of the hospital managment.</p> <p>In anticipation...</p> <p>Angry Daughter!</p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p>
