There are no words to fully express my gratitude to Dr. T. Mbuyane for what he has done for my mother and, by extension, for me. As her only child, this journey has been incredibly difficult, but thanks to him, my mother has been given a second chance at life.

In July 2024, my mother was admitted to Netcare Alberton Hospital due to severe back pain and leg issues. After a week of tests, including an MRI, she was discharged by another doctor who claimed there was “nothing wrong.” This was completely incorrect—the MRI results already showed the issue. Instead of addressing it early, he chose to send her home without treatment, allowing the condition to worsen. What could have been managed then was ignored, leading to my mother becoming paralyzed and unable to walk by January 2025.

In late January 2025, she was rushed to the emergency room at Netcare Alberton Hospital in severe distress. There, we requested another neurosurgeon. He reviewed the MRI and confirmed she needed major spinal surgery, but he referred us to specialists in Pretoria due to the complexity of her case. Given our concerns—having seen a relative undergo a similar procedure there and come out paralyzed—we asked him to explore other options.

That led us to a physician who became a true blessing, ensuring my mother received additional care and referring us to a nephrologist, Dr. Langa, due to kidney complications. It was through Dr. Langa and Dr. Smith that we finally received a clear understanding of her condition. When we asked for a trusted neurosurgeon, they referred us to Dr. T. Mbuyane—and that was the turning point in this journey.

From our very first consultation, Dr. Mbuyane was professional, thorough, and honest. He confirmed my mother had severe spinal stenosis—a highly complex and dangerous condition that other doctors had simply dismissed rather than take on the risk. But instead of walking away, he chose to fight for her.

On March 11, 2025, he led a team of highly specialized doctors in performing an urgent, high-risk spinal surgery. The procedure was extremely difficult, but his expertise, precision, and dedication made all the difference. My mother spent three days in surgical ICU before moving to a general ward. In what felt like a miracle, she was able to feel her legs again. Today, she is in rehabilitation, learning to walk again—something I never thought I would see.

Dr. Mbuyane not only took on a challenging case, but he did so with unmatched compassion. Even after the surgery, he has continued to go above and beyond, personally ensuring her wound heals properly by bringing in a trusted nurse. His genuine care, patient-first approach, and willingness to take on high-risk cases set him apart from so many in his field.

His office staff is equally amazing—kind, professional, and supportive throughout this incredibly tough period in our lives.

As an only child, my mother is my world, and Dr. Mbuyane gave me back the most precious gift—more time with her. He is not just a neurosurgeon; he is a lifesaver, a true angel on earth.

This entire ordeal could have been avoided had the first doctor at Netcare Alberton Hospital simply done his job and acted on the MRI results in July 2024. Instead, his negligence led to months of suffering, paralysis, and near loss. Dr. Mbuyane stepped in where others failed, and for that, I will forever be grateful.

He deserves a 10/10 rating and more. I pray that more doctors will follow his example—treating patients as human beings and fighting for them when no one else will.
