Dont take your sick child to Netcare Lakeview

I would like to bring the absolutely poor, poor service, quality of health care and just general lack of empathy, sympathy expected from a leading health care provider to your attention.

This will also be escalated to all social media platforms as well as hellopeter.com and any other avenues

Day 1.

We made an appointment with a dr at Netcare Lakeview for our son coughing badly. The appointment was 14:00 and we sat there until after 4pm (with a sick child) where we were informed he had to be admitted.

We followed the process and signed all the forms etc.

Got there, was informed that only the 2year old will receive food and drinks and that the mother, who has to stay there 24/7 has to look after herself. No water, blankets, pillows or anything was offered.

We asked 3 times for tea to be made for him, without any joy.

He also didn’t have any additional blankets to keep him warm – it was -1 degrees on Thursday evening

Food was extremely spicy for a 2 year old and he couldn’t eat it.

Day2

At 06:30 am he STILL hasn’t received the tea we requested for him

Attitude received from the nurses about two woman attending to him. It was me (the biological mother) and the adoptive mother that was in attendance. We have the same rights as a mother and father, so the attitude received was embarrassing, unnecessary and discriminatory.

We were informed of no visitors unless in visiting hours. We adhered to this with the grandmother and aunt visiting between 3-4pm, only to have the Physio there during this time, which meant we weren’t allowed the visiting hours and people.

Extremely negative, unfriendly service received

Food spicy again and didn’t want to eat

Day3 (Saturday)

Nurses wanted to change drip. Drip went into the tissue and caused extreme pain. We requested the nurse not to put a new drip in but ask the dr if alternative medicine could be given. We were informed that on SATURDAYS THE PHARMACY WAS CLOSED AND NO MEDICINE WOULD BE PROVIDED??? How is this possible in a hospital!?!?!

New physio came and hurt our boy so badly he didn’t stop crying for over an hour (this was not the case day 1 and 2)

We were discharged but not without the dr requesting blood tests to be taken. During this time we had to wait for someone to come to draw blood. The sister eventually came and then had to obtain assistance from another sister with him being hurt so many times over the past 3 days. The sister then exited and requested assistance from another nurse/ sister who informed her quite sarcastically that she is actually on tea and not able to assist. She eventually went and after over 10 minutes later, they had to get help from another nurse as they couldn’t find any veins. She eventually managed to draw blood.

There is seemingly no pride in what they do. The service is atrocious and there is no way that anyone will feel safe in such an environment. We have no confidence that if something had happened to our boy, that the staff available was able to provide the necessary health care to him. They don’t care about their patience or anyone around them.

Your ’motto” noted below is hilarious and false. I have not experienced such an uncaring, disorganised facility in my entire life

What we stand for
At Netcare, our core value is care.

We care about the dignity of our patients and all members of the Netcare family. We care about the participation of our people and our partners in everything we do. We care about truth in all our actions. We are passionate about quality care and professional excellence.
