Disgustingly mannered staff
On Friday my dad felt sick and said that his right side feels weird. About 5 minutes later I take him to N1 city hospital, since we were at the mall.
We don't have medical aid. So they take my dad into trauma, they give him a disprin and the doctor explains that he needs to be admitted to a hospital (because he had a severe stroke before, and this might be one). The helpful doctor explains to my dad. He tells them that they would need to speak finances with my mom, since the previous stroke, she handles finances. A old nurse asks my dad what my mom does for a living and he says she is a dental assistant, the nurse comments oh well they can't afford this hospital, they need to be sent to Karl bremmer.
The cheek.
They send my dad back to the car and he explains what they said. I was concerned and said we are there so we might as well stay. I will pay the bill. As the daughter, I'm not allowed inside.
I pay for blood tests and a brain scan and the request R50k upfront, and I pay it. They kept my dad in trauma with a possible stroke for hours without giving him any medication.
Later he is sent to icu where they put him on a drip. Not even the TV worked.
He walked in but came out paralyzed on the right side. Besides the disprin they gave him nothing to stop the stroke.
I can't believe that people are judged at face value at a health care facility, whether they can afford it or not. When I paid everything upfront, there was absolutely no complaints. How insulting.
What if he died on the way to Karl bremmer? What if he was alone?
It is disgusting that health professionals that look like they need to be retired, can speak to people so dismissively. How can they be assured that a dental assistant is poor?
They however had no qualms take all that money from me, unemployed and wearing bed slippers.
So sad and disappointing
