DISAPPOINTED PENSIONER

We had to go to the emergency room at The Bay Hospital in Richards Bay on 8 August around midnight as my husband had been bitten badly by our dying cat.

When we got there we had to pay R350 which I still don't know what that was for, then when the Doctor spent one minute asking what had happened and that cost us R900, then R750 for the hospital costs which included an anti-tet**** shot and anti-rabies shot into his arms and an intravenous anti-biotic and pain killer. Then on 12 August he had a second anti-rabies shot for R450.

On Saturday 16 August he went back for another ant-rabies shot but then decided against it after the very pleasant gentleman at reception explained that one can actually get these shots from a clinic.

Up until then no one had told us that we could go to a clinic despite people knowing full well that we are pensioners and only have a hospital plan.

We also learned that Discovery had rejected any of the claims and again what is a person to do at midnight when you need urgent medical care?!!! It is ludicrous that we had to pay R900 for a doctor to literally spend one minute with my husband just to ask what had happened and then to write out a script for pain medication and an anti-biotic.

As I stated above, no one told us about a clinic for rabies shots which could have saved us R900 (2xR450).
