Appauling (Non) Service

I am absolutely appalled by the non-compassion as well as the level of actual nursing at the N1 City Hospital. I'm so overwhelmed by this that in all honesty, I don't know where to start. Point form for ease of reference. * Husband was admitted the 11th May * Nurse was advised on admittance into ward of the dosage of current meds being taken by my husband (Puricoss 300mg) * Husband diagnosed initially with Diverticulitis. No special diet??? A boerewors roll and chips for supper??? * No assistance or offer of a bowl when he was vomiting (for days) * The last time he was able to shower was the 14th of May. NO ONE has bothered to assist with bathing * Due to lack of communication between docs and nurses, the incorrect dosage of gout meds has been given and he can no longer walk. He is now considered high risk (red band) as he cannot get himself up to use the toilet facilities. He has gout so badly now, he's unable to straighten his legs or assist himself. No help whatsoever from staff. * Urine bottles are not being collected on time. This morning bottle had eventually leaked all over the tea tray. Tea was put down, bottle stayed. * How can someone use a urine bottle, struggle on his own, and sit with his pants down to his knees for TWO hours until visiting time, when there is a family member to assist? This has NOT been an isolated case, but has happened a number of times * IV therapy. How can a nurse NOT know how to change his drip. Antibiotics were due at 5am, yet still not hooked up as the nurse told him she doesn't know how to do it? He was still waiting for assistance until just before shift change over. NOT ACCEPTABLE. Again, this is not an isolated case, as yet again this morning, still awaiting someone to assist him. * How are other patients allowed to keep TV and lights burning all night long. How can sick people recuperate? *He has been sitting upright AND sleeping in a chair since 18th May. Not once has anyone asked about pressure sores or offered to assist in helping him get back into bed? * IV are NOT being administered in time as antibiotics are piling up in the cupboard behind him. I am a nurse, I do know certain things when it comes to the administration of drugs etc. So far, are we're a couple of bottles behind as they are not getting replaced when they are supposed to be. One fine example and I quote " drip was supposed to be administered at 14h00, it was eventually done at 15h40 as I was told by the nurse they don't know how to do it" After him asking numerous times. There is NO communication between patient and nurse. No compassion and a general feeling of " I'm here for the salary" This is totally unacceptable. I do not expect an automated response to this but would like to meet with the Practice Manager. I am beyond angry. These are people, people who need care. The rate we're going here, on a personal level, my husband is sicker now than when he was first admitted. Once again, I'm making arrangements, and disrupting people's lives, asking them to come and assist me with getting him into a bath this evening as he's right now "stinking of urine" There are many more issues that for now escape me, from a health care facility, that supposedly takes pride in offering the best service "according to their website" It should not be left for family members and friends to see to the well being and general nursing duties.
