appalling , nasty, unfounded and unnecessary tretmnet of an elderly patients family member - with disgusting consequences.
Whilst having a stroke my mother was rushed & admitted at the Netcare Christian Barnard (how ever it is spelt) Hospital as an emergency patient last night. She was placed in teh high care unit on the 9th Floor and her family members were allowed to see her quickly and leave. I am her daughter she is over 80 years old frail and scared and cannot speak for herself so i do most of her communication. I requested a chair at her bed for the night and was abruptly advised by an african woman in charge that my mother who was in the high care unit who had just had a stroke was not critically ill and that policy dictated that i could not wait at her bedside. i advised that i would wait in the waiting room, but she said teh same was for the outside waiting room? My mother looked stressed and scared, and asked the african woman abundantly why i could not wait in the waiting room outside. i left the ward and sat in the waiting room outside the ward. she approached me outside in the waiting room and said that the security had called the Matron and advised that i please leave, i went to the reception on the ground floor and one of the staff members contacted the security who advised that he had never raised any objection to my sitting in any waiting room and that he was unaware that i even was there, so she **** and was being unnecessary and nasty albeit trying to assert some much needed authority. the reception offered that I stay for the night in the casualty ward because in their view was to travel 60 Kms for a woman alone at night was suicidal and irresponsible. i opted to take the risk and travel home 60 kms away and rather look at other options for my mother. the reception advised that the staff member was probably just a nasty attention seeking person and that I should not bother.
