Be warned: don't ever do business with Neotel

I had a 24 month data package contract with Neotel. This enta**** 15 Gig of data per month and unused data would be carried over to subsequent months. I have received daily emails to keep me informed of my data usage, which was never accurate and I frequently had to phone the call center to verify the info. I could also see unbilled usage on my account on their website, thus keeping track of my usage. I've always taken great care not to exceed usage as I'm a pensioner and couldn't afford their out of bundle rates. At times the Interent was so slow that I couldn't even get a speed test reading. The average speed was 24-35 kbs. I complained about this several times without any joy and I decided to find another service provider and that I will not renew my contract. I've given the required notice period notice that I intnded not to renew my contract and then the fun started. I stopped receiving daily usage emails. When I inquired about that I was informed that Neotel no longer send out usage notices via email. The next thing my unbilled usage via their website was also terminated. I was told that they will look into this, but it was never restored, which left me with the only other option and that was to phone their call centre. At the start of my last contractual month I phoned the call center to inquire how much data I can use as my contract expired on the 25th of the month and I was not sure if I will have my full allocation of 15 Gig. The operator informed me that I could use the full allocation and determined that I have 42 Gig at my disposal for the last month. I queried this as I always only had 15 Gig per month. She assured me that it was not a mistake and that I do have 42 Gig available. This didn't make sense to me and the next day I phoned again to inquire about my data balance. This time, a different operator confirmed that I had a 41, 8 Gig balance. Once again I queried this figure and was again assured that it was correct. The following week it was 35 Gig . Again I asked the operator where this data balance came from and she told me that it was unused data that was carried forward from previous moths. This made sense to me as there were months that I didn't use the full 15 Gig. I figured that they have reconcilliated my acoount after I have given notice and that I am thus now using carried over data. The month after my contract expired, Neotel send me a bill for R3500 and debited this amount from my banking account. I was also debited for the usual monthly contract subscription. i returned the debit order, but they continue to debit my account every month. I send an email to their billing department and customer services explaining that I use data as per my data balance and as advised by their call center and that I'm not going to pay this bill. I recieved an automated response to my email and had no further response from anyone. At last someone from Neotel phoned me and I explained the situation. Nothing was done about it and I'm now being harassed by a collection agency.

Since I've had a new service provider I've also disvovered how Neotel was cheating me on my data usage. At present I'm battling to use 15 Gig per month where I sometimes ran out of data with Neotel in the middle of the month. Their service is terrible and I can only come to the conclusion that they give people wrong information so that they can send you a fat bill after your contract has expired.
