I got a quote from my security firm (Atlas) to replace my lightning-damaged alarm system, for around R10000. I logged a homeowners insurance claim with Nedbank who didn't ask for this quote but said they'd send an assessor around. The assessor duly came and took a look. About 3 weeks later I phoned to query progress. Was told the claim was "approved" for about R2000. My first problem was why no one ever came back to me with this information. My second problem was with the amount which didn't even touch sides with what my very reputable service provider had quoted me. They asked me to send them the quote from Atlas. A couple of weeks later (having heard nothing) the system was not just inadequate, but was not working at all. I struggled to arm and disarm. And this was while all the stuff was going down in KZN and Gaurteng, One night I could not activate the system at all. So I phoned again. And was told my claim was now approved for about R5000. I asked why it was still half the Atlas quote and was assured that someone would phone me back that afternoon. That was last Friday. Not a word since then. No one had ever contacted me, and Emails only get met with automated acknowledgments. Not just bad service, but non existent service. Minus points.
