Worst Bank that *****s Loyal Customers Money
I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding an unauthorised debit of R7,157.62 from my bank account on 24 December 2024. I did not authorise this transaction, and I find the manner in which it was handled to be both unfair and unsolicited.
Since June 2024, I have been unemployed and without a steady income to maintain my account. I informed Nedbank of my financial situation on numerous occasions. However, due to the unfortunate theft of my phone and emails, I experienced communication challenges.
I recently secured employment mid-December 2024, and as I was unsure of my first salary date or amount, I had not yet contacted the bank to make ANY payment arrangements. Nevertheless, I was blindsided by this deduction, particularly as:
I was not notified in advance that this debit would occur. I have not received any summons or garnishment order authorising the bank to recover this amount in such a manner. This deduction was made the day before Christmas, leaving me unable to provide for my household, where I am the primary breadwinner supporting retired parents. On 8 January 2025, I visited the Gateway Nedbank branch to request a reversal of this debit. I was assured that this matter would be addressed, but I have not yet received confirmation that the reversal is being processed.
I find this entire process highly distressing and unfair. I would like to understand:
Why this unauthorised debit was made without proper communication or prior agreement. Whether my request for a reversal is being processed and the timeline for completion. Please prioritise this matter, as I urgently need access to these funds to meet my basic needs, including transportation to work.
