Why must I pay for your problems?

I went to collect my new debit card (old one expired), but the "system was down".

I explained that I could not come back another day, and I was happy to just sign for the card, and have it initialised etc at another branch another day. I was told that my card could not be handed accross the counter from one side to the other, while the system was down. (Funny. just a few years ago you could manage a simple task like that. How quickly 'helpful' technology renders us helpless!)

I will not be in that area again this month, or next. I was told this was no problem, I should just call the number I was given and arrange to collect it somewhere closer. No fee was mentioned when this offer was made. I accepted this offer and took the number.

Now, I am told that I actually I will have to pay R130 to order a totally new card because it is completely impossible to send a card from one side of town to the other. (Funny. just a few years ago you could manage that, too. How quickly 'better systems' render us helpless!)

So because your system was down, and you were unable to do what you were meant to do, you now demand that I pay R130, or else make a plan to go out of my way paying even more than that in time and petrol. Pardon?

I accepted your offer to arrange for me to collect my card at a more convenient location. You made the offer and I accepted. Please now fill your side of the deal without holding my card to ransom.
