Very Unhappy with Nedbank

I switched from Nedbank to Capitec in March of 2017, and I am not regretting my decision. When I was at Nedbank, I always had problems with my internet banking and Nedbank was of no help in trying to resolve the issues. Their app is very confusing; their Knysna branch has minimal seating when standing in the enquiry queue and no seating in their deposit queue. Irrelevant of what time I arrived at their office, I always had to wait. And not a mere five minutes. Sometimes it was up to an hour STANDING in a line. Their fees are some of the highest I have ever seen, and their interest rate on savings accounts is minimal. However, my biggest problem with Nedbank is their disrespect of client privacy.

A little background. When I was born, my grandmother created a fixed deposit account for me, in my name. She had co-signing rights to this account until I was 16. I emptied this account in late January 2019. My grandmother, grandfather and their business have been banking with Nedbank since before I was born, so we know the Knysna branch staff well as we use to go in to do deposits and checque deposits every week.

When I emptied my account, the staff at the Knysna branch either informed my grandmother I had withdrawn all the money, or she asked what the balance of the account (as she still has the account number) was and they told her there was no money in it.

All I know is that this was not the first time the branch was more than willing to give members of my family information on my financial situation just because we know the staff well. This happened back when I also had a kiddie account with them (to clarify, even though it is a kiddie account, none of my family members had signing rights or any right to information about that account) and they gave my grandmother information about the balance in the account.

I would not recommend this bank to anyone and keep encouraging my grandparents to switch to a bank with lower fees and higher interest rates.
