Useless service
I'm hoping you can help me by posting this letter.
In May 2017 my wife past away after contracting Cereble Maleria which took her in four days. I was asked to return to the hospital the next day to collect the death certificate. As I was in Tzaneen I drove to Nedbank Bank to inform them of my wifes passing and also to ask them to give me some much needed money. My money earned always went into my wifes account as I had had so many close calls in countries I worked in. It was decided by me that if I had to go to the next world, I did not want my wife in the very position I now find myself in. I went to the info box in Nedbank and told the lady that I had come in to report my wifes parting and that I needed some money out of the account so I could return to Johannesburg. I got a straight. "We can't help you". No, I'm so sorry to hear the sad news. Just we can't help you. I had to borrow money to get back to Johannesburg. Months later I was living in Northwold with my brother. I went to Nedbank in North Gate. Again I was told at the info box. We can't help you. I asked to see a manager. He can't help you and they are busy. I was about to walk past a bank when I decided to go and see what their reaction was. I was surprised to find that I was asked to sit down and a manager would come to fetch me. We are so sorry for your lose. In return I said thank you and excused myself saying I was not upto it and would return. Letters with death certificate and id's Master of the court etc were sent to the relevant companies we dealt with. Weeks later I recieved answers from all but Nedbank Bank. I was staying with friends in Pretoria North. I went to see Nedbank. For the third time I was told the same. "We can't help you". Nedbank are proud to say how they will be a personal bank and are there to help you in any way. All i see is a bank who only give a damn while you're alive and there is no consideration for those left behind. To date three months later I have still not had notification from Nedbank saying they are looking into the matter. Nedbank froze the account a few weeks after my wifes passing. When I tried to use one of my wifes cards.
Is this the way Nedbank treat all the the spouses of clients who have passed away. It turns out YES. A friend of mine has the same problem. She has never heard a word from Nedbank since trying to claim her inheritance left by her father last year. I am on the bones of my ass. The assets that were put into Nedbank is all I have. What right have they to take their time. How is it they have not thought of the family left behind or the fact that the spouse may well ask them if he could take over the account and continue to invest with Nedbank. Is this what banking is all about. Only care when the client is alive. Not really. I proved that by going into Standard bank. I didn't even have an account there. Sincerely JRS.
