Urgent Complaint and Appeal for Resolution of *****ulent Transaction
On 25 August 2023, I initiated a payment transfer from my Nedbank business account to an FNB account with the account number ***, in the amount of R128,120. A subsequent transaction of R20,000 occurred just after midnight on 26 August 2023, to the same FNB account. It was later discovered that both transactions were associated with a *****ulent entity, and I immediately reported the matter to Nedbank on 26 August 2023, which resulted in the issuance of reference number ***3. A ***** case was also registered with FNB, bearing the case number ***. Concurrently, the incident was reported to the South African Police Service (SAPS) under case number CAS830/8/2023. In line with recorded conversations and assurances from the FNB agent, it was conveyed that the funds would be frozen. To this day, no resolution has been reached. As of October 20, 2023, Nedbank has communicated that FNB claims to have only recovered R20,755.03 from the total *****ulent transaction amount of R148,120. This discrepancy is deeply disconcerting, particularly considering FNB's prior assurance that the funds would be frozen. The whereabouts of the remaining funds remain unclear. What adds to my concern is the contradictory advice I have received from Kim Govender as the banker for my business account. Initially, I was discouraged from lodging a dispute or initiating a reversal as it might interfere with the ***** investigation. However, recent conversations with her suggest that even if I pursue a reversal or lodge a dispute, it would not have guaranteed the reversal of the funds. When my business partner spoke to Kim on 21 October 2023 she was told that the payment was made willingly from our side. This is no way to speak to a client who is distraught. Kim is also pushing for me sign an indemnity to allow Nedbank to act on behalf of my company to recover the R20 755.03 from FNB.
