Sudden Charges on Student Credit Card no longer in use

I have, for years, owned a Nedbank Student credit card.

This account has been in credit for as long as I remember.

When I was at a branch to collect the card once, I mentioned I may close it, I was told by the consultant I should keep it open, since there is so charge for this card. Following this advice I kept it open.

Because this account has been in credit for so long, and from what I knew, there were no supposed charges on the account, I didn’t bother checking the statement. When I checked it now, I noticed they have been charging me every month for this facility. I haven’t consented to this!

This is so sneaky! When Edgars wanted to introduce a fee, they let their customers acknowledge this by letting them sign a document. This was not the initial credit agreement! I have never signed anything consenting for them to charge me these fees. The consultant at the call centre indicated there was no need for me to sign anything.

This is terrible, I am totally disgusted. This card is expired and I don’t even use it. Imagine all the other students who probably changed their email addresses and will years later realise they have been billed. This will be on my credit report too, which is terrible and my main reason of anger. Never will I open a credit card with Nedbank again!
