Student Loan Application.

I app**** for a student loan at Nedbank on the 24th of June 2016, as I have been accepted at Lancaster University in England. My course starts on the 1st of October 2016.

Till date (2nd of August 2016) I haven't received any proper response from them. They claim their turn-around time is 2 weeks. There is still lots to do (i.e. Visa application and payment of necessary expenses) and Nedbank is holding back the whole process.

Getting fed up of the delay and constantly having being told that my application is still under discussion with the credit department, also somehow tangible security is of importance (not being specific as to why and what kind).
They need to understand and take into account the people who do not possess tangible security thereon recommend alternatives to them rather than putting up their hands.

I decided to call the through the complaints helpline. Initially it seemed as if some good would come out of it yet once again Nedbank proves they lack in customer service. The consultant I spoke with informed me that a response and decision will be given on Monday 1st of August 2016 before 12:00 PM. Three different time slots were allocated (12:00 & 16:00 PM) just for that day. Today (2nd August 2016) I still await their call as they couldn't do their job properly the first time.

At all times no calls were received, I in-turn had to call them and follow up.

There isn't any means to track my application or to specifically find what the hold-up is about?

They claim to provide a service yet no action is being taken, no effort is being put in.

Nedbank fails to commit and is busy pushing me from pole-to-pole, throwing the ****** around and not taking this matter as seriously as it should be taken.

One's further education is at stake here.

Following up from the Hello Peter complaint above, which Nedbank has managed to respond to.

This time around I'm putting forward the matter of Nedbank asking to resend documents that were a part of my loan application as a whole. The only logical reason I can think of why Nedbank would still need supporting documents seems to me that all my documents have been lost by their team (which is highly *********** and unprofessional), hence seems that this whole application process has only begun/reviewed now in August 2016 whereas I have lost over a month in time which Nedbank can definitely not compensate for.

This is following up from my last Hello Peter complaint.

Nedbank has decide to decline my loan on the basis of: (directly quoted as per the email received from the credit department on 5th of August 2016)
"Finance for overseas studies is granted for post graduate qualifications or courses."
Even after having resent documents multiple times which clearly mention the purpose as to what the loan is being applied for.

They have now relentlessly decided to "close the matter in this regard" and are "unable to assist further". (Directly quoted as per the email received from the credit department on 5th of August 2016).
This is the only action from Nedbank which was received after my initial Hello Peter complaint, most action in the first week of August 2016 than in the previous month!

My situation has come back to square-one. Not forgetting the rather valid point of Nedbank wasting over a month of my time and furthermore not accepting to their error but rather using the excuse of Risk Management to decline my loan. The only risk management I see happening is from the staff, being more worried about saving their jobs rather than working and providing a service for what their paid for.

I have now spoken to the rude regional manager who, for me personally, does not understand the meaning of customer support and client service.

He had not looked thoroughly into my case hence asked to call back (which he didn't bother doing) after he had done a timeline search to inform him, when exactly I applied for the loan and why it has taken over a month to come back to me, as my word wasn't enough proof.

Why is it that such difficulties be faced with someone who is planning to build their future?

South Africa, in general has no means of providing student loans for overseas studies as their is legitimately no help from service providers or financial institutions.

Key message- Out of all the 100 people that I spoke to and got pushed around throughout this whole process none of them were able to inform me that Nedbank doesn't assist in providing student loans for undergraduate studies overseas. If this is not incompetence and sheer negligence, then what is this?
