Stay away from Nedbank - Poor service, greed and theft

Nothing but terrible service from Nedbank over the past 5 years, starting with the bank account of an NPO I was running being hacked and Nedbank paying over the money and refusing to share responsibility with the client to sort it out (including refusing to pay over approx R100,000 that had been recovered as the organisation's) as the organisation did not want to sign indemnity. When I left said organisation in March this year, I discovered my personal Nedbank account had been linked to the organisation's and I could no longer access it. I spent hours on the phone trying to get this sorted, but it never was. Ultimately, I opened an account at another bank, who's service has been far superior. I tried to close the account but there was some technicality that meant it could not be closed the day I went into the branch. I transferred all money out and gave an instruction for it to be closed. This never happened. Yesterday, I heard that SARS had refunded me money into that account, as still operational. I went into a branch to draw the money, minus any fees and close the account. They told me they could not give me cash and they could not close the account as there was a hold on it, it had been handed over to a legal department (this without ever contacting me/providing an idea as to why). By today, it still has not been closed, still shows a hold on it, and there is close to R40,000 in the account, way more than any fees owed. Still no explanation, still account is open. I am at my wits end. I have been told I have to go back and spend another few hours in the branch trying to get this sorted. I have never experienced such disgusting, greedy, disempowered resistance in my life before. I am entitled to my money, as was the organisation I worked for, and I am entitled to close the account. Beware of Nedbank: I will make it my mission to spread these stories about Nedbank, if it is the last thing I do. I am sick and tired of there never being recourse, because all the legal firms work for Nedbank.
