Springs mall branch refuses to put deceased bank account on hold

My father was a Nedbank client and he passed away on the 31st of March. I went to the Nedbank branch at the Springs mall to put his account on hold and block his card on the 5th of April and was told that I needed a letter of authority which was in fact false because I had his ID and death certificate with me. I went back on the 7th of April and the consultant helping me was not competent and kept on calling her manager to come help her with the codes and eventually she assured me that the account had been placed on hold. To my surprise when I eventually obtained his statement on the 8th of May, his account was still active and debits were going through and there ha been withdrawals from his account from and unknown source. Upon flagging this and requesting that they put the account on hold immediately, they refused and still requested a letter of authority and kept the account open.

This sequence of events is extremely saddening and unacceptible and it shows a lack of competence, adhering to banking codes of conduct and putting the customer first. It also shows that Nedbank can't be trusted with people's money because the account is no in the negative and somehow my family is now liable. I hold Nedbank Springs mall liable for the financial damages and not to mention the emotional heartache that my family had to go through.
