I bought foreign exchange on an American express travel card and paid for it with my American express card. I was unaware that I would be debited interest daily until the amount was paid. This is unlike other transactions that do not accrue interest if paid within the 25 day period stipulated by the bank. When I discovered my misunderstanding I wanted to settle the amount of the foreign exchange transaction immediately to avoid accruing further interest. I was told this was not possible. I had to settle the full outstanding amount even though the balance was due in only 20 days. I have no doubt it is possible but clearly Nedbank is unwilling
