Outdated, slow and poor service
I had my homeloan with Nedbank until I sold the property. After I received confirmation from my attorneys that the deed has been transferred, I requested that the remaining credit on the account be transferred to my transactional account and the homeloan be closed. The response I got was that I should contact their attorneys that's handling the transfer to follow up on the progress and the account will be closed once the transfer was concluded. To me a response such as this is unacceptable, as I've been paying service fees to Nedbank and have no direct business with their attorneys. Why can't Nedbank follow up with their attorneys and relay the information back to the paying customer? It gives the impression they don't want to put in any effort, but still gladly take your money. At least they said they would close the account once business is concluded...
Then I wanted to close my investment account, as there's no funds in it and I'm not using it anymore and I was told to close it at a branch. Which is rather disappointing, because a competitor will allow you to close an account straight from their banking app!
Fast forward a few months to the day I close my transactional- and investment accounts, as I no longer wish to struggle with Nedbank. The very friendly and helpful lady at the tellers asked if I'm sure I wanted to close all my accounts and I said that I indeed wanted to close both accounts. To which she responded that there were three accounts: transactional, investment and homeloan! It sure is unpleasant to find out something that was confirmed has not been done...
Also, Nedbank has a rather low payment limit through their online channels, which can be increased, but only after jumping through hoops and then it's likely to be only for a day too. Which is also disappointing, as competitors will allow you to safely and securely adjust your limits as high as you wish for as long as needed through their online channels without jumping through hoops.
If you enjoy outings to your bank to stand in line to get things done, enjoy jumping through hoops and like the feeling that your bank doesn't want you to use your own money as you see fit, then Nedbank is right for you!
