Nedbank utter incompetence

Where to start? - how do one describe utter incompetence?

I had Nedbank credit cards (Gold and Amex) for probably 15 years now. I also had cards for my wife on the same account, as well as a Greenbacks Benefits card. A few years ago the benefits card expired and Nedbank forgot to renew it. No big deal – late May I this year I phoned the contact centre and renewed the benefits card. It had a balance of a few thousand rand. Collected the benefits card and before I even had started to use it there were suddenly 9 transactions with the benefits card on 9 June. I phoned the ***** department and reported it –also mentioned that it must have been in inside job, as the card never left my home since I collected it (three months later and I am still waiting to hear from the ***** dept).

Next step was to cancel the benefits card. Call centre - here we come! Explained to the consultant what I needed to be done (cancel the benefits card) only for him to cancel all 4 our credit cards as well as the Greenbacks benefit card! When I asked him why he has done that he said I told him to do so. I then insisted that a supervisor listen to the recording of the call and call me back, which he did later. Supervisor said that he listened to the recording and that I did not ask for the credit cards to be cancelled. Supervisor very helpful and said he will courier new cards to Durbanville branch. A few days later I went to pick up the cards – only to find out that only my cards are there and no cards for my wife. As I was working in Brackenfell later that day, I popped in at the Nedbank branch there and one of the consultants ordered new cards for my wife. After hearing nothing from Nedbank for another two weeks I phoned the contact centre again. They inform me that the cards are at the Durbanville branch (inside). Took my wife and went there. Consultant went to look for the cards and came back with TWO envelopes. I open both and now there were FOUR new credit cards – all in my name. So I was now the proud owner of SIX credit cards and my wife the owner of NONE.

The lady who assisted us then got on the phone to the contact centre while we waited. After more than an hour the contact centre promised that everything is sorted and new cards will be on their way. Two weeks later and still nothing. Went back to Durbanville branch and spoke to the same consultant who assisted me before. So she then repeated the call centre exercise – only to be informed that here is nothing on the system regarding my whole credit card saga. So she sent e-mails again and I left after wasting another hour. Today it is another two weeks later and I am still waiting.

Will be going to Absa on Monday for new credit cards.
