Nedbank unfair and Standard Bank not
I have been a client with Nedbank since 1976.
About 6 weeks ago, my sister, (who banks with Standard Bank) and I, each received a substantial inheritance in the form of a bank guaranteed cheque from Germany.
It was accompanied by a letter from the executor in Germany.
We both went to our respective banks and were told it would take between 4 to 6 weeks for the cheque to be cleared and reflect in our accounts.
Approximately 3 weeks later, Nedbank phoned me to say they are unwilling to do the transaction for, in my mind, silly reasons that the cheque was written in German and not in English.
Sadly, a week later, the translated letter was also rejected.
In the meantime my sisters bank, confirmed that the cheque had been cleared in Germany and that the money would reflect in her account the next day.
I am horrified that it has taken Nedbank 4 weeks to tell my they are unwilling to do the transaction, although initially there was no indication that there would be a problem.
In the same period of time, my sister's transaction with Standard was successfully concluded.
I do not want to move my account, but it seems impossible to get to talk to someone senior who can resolve this urgently.
