Nedbank requiring - Must go via an attorney and payment for retrieving you property deeds once bond is paid off

Please can someone assist me. I paid off my bond around 6 years ago. I have recently been told that Nedbank still has my actual deeds to my property.

On contacting nedbank and their business section to retrieve my deeds. I was informed over the telephone that they would not release my deeds to me that it has to go via an attorney. That I could nominate an attorney. However, the cost of this would be around R3,000.00. But nedbank does not profit from this transaction.

I was then informed via email that I have to use a nominated attorney that Nedbank uses they do not know the actual cost for this. No documents forwarded to me

I have asked for proof of a document that stipulate that a payment has to be made to retrieve deeds, when this came into force and proof that I signed the documents. But have not received anything back from Nedbank.

Can anyone help with information that this is the norm and do other banks have the same policy
