Nedbank or Numberbank?

What a rude awakening I had with Nedbank today. They promise the world when selling you on their products and services, yet when you run into trouble, there is no measure of humanity to be found at all. I was unemployed for a few months, and therefore has inactivirty on my (long standing) account. Yesterday my salary was transferred into this account (which I cheecked on Tuesday to make sure everything is still in order. This morning, my cards did not work, my interetbanking was inactive, my banking app as no longer active. Upon calling them, I was informed that my internet banking profile has been closed, my cards had been closed, and that I had to go into a branch to reactivate them.

At the branch, I was told that due to inactivity, and the fact that my account had gone into overdraft, there would be a hold on the account until my salary has cleared. Thereafter, they would open a new account for me, as my account will effectively be closed.

I called the customer complaint line, where I was assisted by a very nice lady, who escalated my case to a manager for immediate response. I received a call from them to which I was told that there was nothing they could do until the hold is lifted, and that tey would monitor the account and let me know when the account would be active again. Once again, there is nothing that can be done at this stage, and I will have to wait until such time as the hold had been lifted, tehreafter go back into a branch to have a temporary card issued with which to access my funds.

Should I wish to keep my current (Gold cheque) account, which I have had for a numebr of years, I have to supply them with an affidavid, stating the facts of the past few months, as well as a copy of my latest payslip.

Upon my question of why I was not notified that the account would be suspended before hand, to enable me to make sure I have my salary transferred into another account, I was given a simple "yes, that should have happened" and "I'm not sure why this didn't happen"

According to the person who called me, I have to see the matter for the perspective of the bank, that they are there to make maney, and cannot afford to spend the resources following up on accounts that are overdrawn. They simply get handed over to a thrid party for collection. Apparently, according to him, the bank has to take care of their customers who have a positive balance (i.e: make money for them)
