Nedbank ***** Issue - Mac and Things - ****** funds
I checked my banking app this morning (thankfully) and saw that my account was in overdraft. Knowing that wasn’t possible, I reviewed my transaction history and discovered that all my funds had been taken on 6 February 2025 through a transaction listed as “Mac and Things.”
Panicked, I called Nedbank, and the customer service representative casually mentioned that he had spoken to three other people last week who experienced the same thing. I was then transferred to the ***** department, where the woman I spoke to showed absolutely no urgency. She spoke to me as if this was completely normal—like I was overreacting for being concerned that my account had been hacked.
There is a massive lack of urgency and accountability here. How is it even possible for someone to take money straight from my account without Nedbank knowing?
If this is a ****, how did they bypass Nedbank's security? I don’t feel safe keeping my money in my account because how do I know this won’t happen again? Why has Nedbank not informed its customers that their security has been compromised? Keeping our money safe is the most basic function of a bank! It's the entire reason we pay money for someone else to keep our money.
