Nedbank Insurance – Misleading, Delayed, and Unfair Claim Handling
Title: Nedbank Insurance – Misleading, Delayed, and Unfair Claim Handling
HelloPeter Complaint:
I am lodging this complaint regarding the extremely poor and dishonest handling of my insurance claim (Claim No. ***) with Nedbank Insurance for my 2025 Ford Territory Trend EcoBoost 1.8 (Reg. CS53KBZN; VIN: LJXCU3BB9RTF80365), involved in a head-on collision on 27 June 2025.
Since lodging my claim promptly on 30 June 2025, Nedbank has consistently delayed, misled, and disregarded my rights as a policyholder. Despite paying R12,500 per month for finance and R3,500 per month for insurance, I am still without my vehicle.
Chronology of Key Events:
27 June 2025: Head-on collision; all airbags deployed.
30 June 2025: Claim lodged. Car hire provided for 30 days (expired 3 Aug 2025).
23 July 2025: Assessor approved repairs at R307,629.93.
28 July 2025: Nedbank consultant claimed repairs were “completed”—this was false; parts had not even been ordered.
Present: Vehicle still unrepaired, car hire cut off, no structural or diminished value assessment provided.
Key Complaints:
Misrepresentation: Nedbank falsely claimed repairs were complete.
Administrative delays: Parts were not authorised on time, leaving my vehicle untouched.
Poor communication: I have had to chase updates, receiving contradictory and misleading responses.
Financial prejudice: I continue paying finance and insurance for a car I cannot use, while car hire was cut off.
Safety and value concerns: No structural integrity or diminished value report has been provided for a brand-new vehicle that sustained severe damage.
Why This is Unacceptable: Nedbank’s actions violate FAIS Code duties, the Short-Term Insurance Act, and Treating Customers Fairly principles. The insurer has acted neither honestly nor fairly, leaving me stranded, stressed, and financially burdened.
Relief I Seek:
Immediate extension of car hire at Nedbank’s cost until the vehicle is repaired.
A full structural integrity report by an independent engineer.
A diminished value assessment of my vehicle.
Explanation and records regarding parts authorisation delays.
Investigation into whether Nedbank’s conduct breaches FAIS, the Short-Term Insurance Act, or TCF principles.
Any additional compensation deemed fair for the extreme inconvenience and financial prejudice endured.
Conclusion: Nedbank Insurance’s handling of this claim has been disgraceful. I have been misled, ignored, and financially prejudiced while continuing to pay full instalments and premiums. I urge HelloPeter readers, regulators, and Nedbank to acknowledge the seriousness of this matter and act decisively to rectify it.
