Nedbank has failed me
I app**** online on the 01st of June 2018 for a Nedbank credit card and received a request to submit all the documentation required to open an account, I was informed i would get a response within 10 days. I then sent a follow up email after receiving an sms from Nedbank ( Please see letter sent on the 03rd of July) ' Good Day I would like to make a follow up on a credit application that I made ref FI ********** , I have just received an sms message stating that my application has been declined due to incorrect or unauthentic details provided which is very surprising because on the 25th of June at 11.02amI received a call from one of your consultants to verify my details to which I responded that I was currently at work and not able to speak with him at that time and I asked him to call me on my lunch break at 1pm and to date I have not received any calls from either him or your call centre. Please assist me in understanding why my application was declined when I was not given the opportunity to verify my personal details' I was advised that my case would be investigated and I would be advised of the outcome. I then received an email and phone call advising me that my application was successful and the credit card would be couriered to my delivery address. On the 24th of July I received another SMS to verify my details at a nearest Branch as per Fica regulations before the 31st of July. I then went to the Hemingways Branch to submit my South African Home Affairs issued Refugee Identity Document and proof of Address to which I was advised that they would need to first verify my ID with the Home Affirs Department and that would take about 24 hours to verify after which the teller would give me a call to submit my proof of ID and address to Nedbank. i asked what would happen to my account as my credit card had been delivered and I feared my account would be closed whilst they verified my ID she advised that would not be the case and I would still be able to use my credit card. I waited all week for a response and eventually went to the Hemingways branch on the 03rd of August to make a follow up and the same teller now changed her story and told me it would take many months or years to receive a response from the Home Affairs Department which is shocking as my Husband is in possession of the same ID document but has a Nedbank Credit card. Furthermore I received a call from the DHL courier company on the 17th of August that had delivered my Nedbank credit card saying that they had been informed by the Bank to take back my credit card as my details were not valid. I have used the same South African Refugee Identity Document to open accounts with other major retailers; Truworths, The Foschini Group, The Edcon Group and MR Price Stores. I feel that Nedbank is being discriminatory because when they realised that i was not a South African National they cancelled my account which they had approved prior to that. I am of the sentiment that some individuals working at their Call Centre were just tried to find an issue with my application because i am foreign national. I have a South African issued identity document and submitted all the relevant accompanying documentation and have a good credit score in South Africa.
