Nedbank - Gross Incompetence

Opened Nedbank debit and credit card accounts at Lonehill branch in Johannesburg.

No sooner done, than Nedbank closes the branch without bothering to inform clients. This created problem as which branch now to use, particularly for collecting new cards.

Debit card expired in March 2020. Was informed by SMS that the new card could be picked up at Dainfern Square. Informed Nedbank that my preferred branch was Woodmead and due to Covid-19 lockdown would not be going to Dainfern Square. Received another SMS indicating that my new card could be collected at Fourways. Informed Nedbank that I would not be going to Fourways to collect as my preferred branch was Woodmead. Kept getting SMS's to go to either Dainfern Square or Fourways to collect the new debit card. Eventually discovered that Nebank had decided to temporarily close the Woodmead branch due to Covid-19. But Nedbank does not bother to inform anyone about this decision. Informed Nedbank that I would wait until the Woodmead branch re-opened and collect new debit card there. Received a final warning to collect card from Fourways otherwise the card would be destroyed. When lockdown moved to level 2, received an SMS from Nedbank saying that my card could be collected at Fourways! Credit card expires in September. Did a afternoon's shopping on the last Saturday of August. Stood in a queue a mile long and eventually passed my selected items through the till point to find that payment using my platinum credit card was declined by Nedbank. Wasted an afternoon and petrol to get to the shopping centre. Phoned Nedbank to establish why the payment had been declined. Informed that the card had been blocked with no reason provided! My credit card is paid in full each and every month, so non-payment could not be reason to decline payment. Nedbank has no qualms in embarrassing its clients by its unilateral decisions to not honour payment obligations. Nedbank also has a very irritating practice of constantly pressurising card customers to use their American Express card. No matter how many times Nedbank is informed that there is no interest in their American Express card the harassment is unending! One is forced to conclude that the bad experiences with Nedbank is simply a case of gross incompetence. Unfortunately it is the poor call centre operators that are forced to endure the adverse reactions to the gross incompetence. The CEO, Mr Mike Brown should expose himself to irate customers venom and then maybe things would change at Nedbank. In the meantime Nedbank basks in blissful hubris.
